Paint holds time. Each layer is a record of what came before it, and what was covered over.
Wanita Dixon
My painting practice is built on accumulation. I work in layers, often returning to a surface over days and weeks. The early marks are sometimes visible in the finished work, altering the texture, weight, and how light moves across the surface.
The subjects are sometimes literal. I am one day painting objects or places; the next, a feeling of inheritance, the weight of memory, or the texture of resilience. These are not abstract concepts to me. They are physical, bodily experiences that I translate into paint.
